Andrea Park: A Stranger Called Me A Chinese B*tch and Then Spat In My Face

is the perp a fan of anti Asian racist Hollywood movies?

It’s November of 2010. I’m walking on the Lower East Side one night with my college girlfriends and feeling really cute and cool, ’cause it’s 11:30 and the club is jumpin’ jumpin’. We’re walking toward the club on Rivington Street and we’re so close we can feel the bass. The streets are packed, brightly lit and crowded — typical for a weekend night on this strip.

We’re swimming upstream on a narrow sidewalk when a guy squeezes past me and grips my upper arm and yanks me toward him. He looks like Ronnie from “Jersey Shore” in his skin-tight black tee-shirt and has a whole bottle of gel in his hair.
“Where you going tonight ladies?”
I shake off his hand and walk away. I hate when strangers touch me, even just to tap me on my shoulder.
I’m about 10 feet away when he calls after me. “Go study for your SATs, you Chinese bitch,” he snarls.
Let me pause here to give you some background info: I am not Chinese. I am American and I was born in Wayne, New Jersey, and anyway, my parents are Korean. I don’t like being called Chinese. There’s nothing wrong with being Chinese — I’ve studied Chinese and have lived in China — but I hate that so many people think it’s okay to:
a. Point out that I’m “not American”
b. Assume they know my ethnicity
c. Project stereotypes onto me based on this incorrect label
Also, a lot of people seem to think China is interchangeable with all of Asia; in fact, China is a country in Asia. While we’re at it, my parents are from South Korea and not North Korea. North Koreans have not been permitted to leave their country since 1953.
Anyway, back to Rivington Street. I go from 0 to 60 in a split second and run to him and get up in his grill. “What did you just call me?” I ask
“Get out of my fucking face, you bitch,” he says. “Don’t make me hit you.”
He may be ’roided out, judging from his Jose Canseco-like biceps. Every vein on his forehead is dancing. But somehow, 5’3”, pocket-sized me is too angry to care and we’re nose to nose, screaming at each other.
“I’ll break your fucking face,” he says over and over again with balled up fists.
“Go ahead,” I hiss. “Show everyone on this street what a gentleman you are.”
This back-and-forth continues for a few minutes and I see his fists clench tighter and tighter and then he starts shoving me with both hands. I stagger back in my 5-inch stacked heels. Finally he releases all of his pent-up fury — and spits right in my eye. As I wipe the spit off with my hand, I see him running away with his friends. None of the bouncers in front of the nearby clubs and bars stop him or say anything.
I’m so humiliated that I pretend it’s no big deal.
“Ugh, let’s go,” I say, still wiping my eyes. “I don’t feel like staying out anymore.” They nod but don’t say anything and follow me into a cab.
On the way home, one of my friends gets hysterical.
“Andrea, ANDREA,” she says. “That guy — he said he was going to break your face. And he was so — SO big. And you’re so small! If he punched you, he would have broken your face. And then you’d have a broken face!”
She goes on like this for a while. My other friend stays totally silent. I live uptown, so I drop my friends off first.

Asian Passengers are Second Class Citizens on Major Airline

I am writing about an incident of discrimination that occurred on flight AF107 on July 21, 2013 from Guangzhou to Paris. For the purpose of this letter you need to know that I am a Taiwanese American passenger and my fiancé is a Caucasian English passenger.

My fiancé and I were enjoying our flight and chatting when he was offered a French meal. The flight attendant, Ms. X, then walked off without asking me what I wanted. About 10 minutes later when she walked back my fiancé tried to get her attention by saying, “Excuse me” but she ignored him by giving him the “hold on” hand gesture. About a minute later she passed by again but this time she completely ignored his, “excuse me”. It was strange to me because the people directly in front of me had been served, as well as select people in back of where I was sitting. In addition, these select people were offered champagne while I had neither food nor drink.

The forth time Ms. X walked by (about 15 minutes now) with a food trolley I asked her if I could get food and she responded with a harsh, “Wait”. I asked her why my fiancé sitting next to me had food and she replied with, “It’s French”. When I told her I wanted a French meal as well she walked away.

After my shock and confusion about her rude behavior, I took a look around and noticed that all the white passengers that were not sleeping had already been served, and none of the Asian passengers had food.

As the flight left from China, I understand that there is a demand for Chinese food from some Asian passengers. However, I did not understand why I had not even been asked when I was sitting right next to someone who was being asked if he wanted a meal. Keep in mind that at this point Ms. X was still refusing to acknowledge me.

It was then that a Chinese flight attendant came over and told us that Ms. X was a very nice person and that I misunderstood the situation. She explained this to me in Chinese, even though English is my language of fluency. She also repeatedly laughed and told me the situation did not happen, and that it was something I was making up in my mind. She apologized and I told her that I wanted to speak with Ms. X about the situation, as she was the one who could explain her own actions.

After this flight attendant and another flight attendant both asked Ms. X to speak to me she finally did. I reiterated what had happened and she told me it was a matter of her running out of food on her cart, and that I misunderstood. After this conversation, the head flight attendant with short gray hair asked Ms. X what was going on. Ms. X responded by telling her that I was upset because I didn’t get my food at the same time. This person in charge then took one look at me and made a loud mocking sound, then walked away. I told Ms. X that if she wanted to talk about me then she could at least do this away from my seat. Ms. X and the woman with short gray hair wrongly assumed that my fiancé and I could not understand French and thought it was acceptable to behave in such an unprofessional way. Even if neither of us could speak French, their mannerisms during their conversation about me, right in front of me was crystal clear.

I have been on countless flights in my lifetime and never made a single complaint. This was clearly not a matter of a flight attendant running out of food, but one that chose to serve all the white passengers on the flight first. If it was a question of a French or Chinese meal, all she had to do was ask. I was not only ignored multiple times and not given a choice, but also received attitude from Ms. X when I tried to explain why I was offended and why I felt and still feel like I was discriminated against. Her refusal to serve me at the same time she was serving the white passengers paints a very clear picture of discrimination.

On top of that, her colleague (the Chinese speaking attendant) not only told me I was making up the situation and laughed at me, but also refused to tell me Ms. X name, claiming that she didn’t know it. And, the person in charge was not only disinterested in the situation but also made her lack of respect towards me clear by talking about me and mocking me right in front of my face.

Ms. X did attempt an apology at one point by saying she was sorry I misunderstood, and that she wished her Chinese was as good as my English. That comment is beyond ignorant as it suggests that English HAS to be a second language to me and that someone who is of Asian descent could not have grown up in an English speaking country.

After a few times of me asking for her name, she finally told me and gave me her card.

This entire incident was extremely upsetting. I could not eat much of my meal and my body was shaking for quite awhile. I’m sure that this experience will stay with me long after the meal. It certainly has tainted my image of Air France.

I have never been so insulted, disgusted, and upset as I am by this incident with Ms. X. So far I have received one very dismissive email back from AF’s customer service department. There was no acknowledgement of any discrimination but instead an email saying, “We are sorry to learn that the service you experienced on this occasion failed to meet your expectations.”

Uh-Oh. The Pentagon Considers Well-Traveled, Broke Indian American Women Threats

The Huffington Post’s Matt Sledge recently introduced readers to “Hema,” a character in an online training given to Pentagon employees to teach them how to identify “insider threats.”

Writes Sledge:

A security training test created by a Defense Department agency warns federal workers that they should consider the hypothetical Indian-American woman a “high threat” because she frequently visits family abroad, has money troubles and “speaks openly of unhappiness with U.S. foreign policy.”

As you can imagine, reading that line caused all of us here in The Aerogram’s headquarters to have a “Hey! That sounds like me!” moment.

Sledge goes on to say that the training was designed to help catch future Bradley Mannings and Edward Snowdens, who are both white men. (Editor’s note: We think the training would have been much more true-to-life if Hema had been the child of a Welsh immigrant a la Manning.)

Central African Republic: dozens killed in attacks on Christian villages

Islam’s war on Africa continues:

Attacks by extremists on Christian villages in the Central African Republic have left at least 15 dead and made around 1,000 people homeless. The raids were carried out by Islamist militia group, Séléka which seized control of the country following a coup in March 2013.

At least 14 villages in Bouar Diocese were completely abandoned after residents fled, Italian Carmelite missionary, Fr Aurelio Gazzera, told Aid to the Church in Need.

More than 970 refugees arrived at Fr Gazzera’s mission in Bozoum last weekend (3 – 4 August). The priest visited the mainly Christian villages where the attacks took place, on the road between Bozoum and Bossangoa, on Wednesday (7 August).

He told Aid to the Church in Need: “It was terrible. Many villages are like ghost towns because they are completely empty. Witnesses told me that the rebels had thrown the bodies of those killed in the river.” The dead included a five-month-old baby.

Witnesses gave the number of dead as at least 15 – but according to Fr Gazzera it has to be assumed that “several dozen” have been killed. The priest said that predominantly Muslim villages “are not affected by such attacks, or only slightly”.

In a sermon at his Cathedral of Notre Dame in Bangui, Archbishop Dieudonné Nzapalainga spoke out against the ongoing attacks by Séléka.

Preaching on Sunday 21st July, he said: “I can’t remain silent while the sons of this country are the victims of the worst kind of barbarism. I can’t remain silent while Central Africans are being tortured and killed, squashed like flies. I can’t remain silent while our mothers and sisters are being raped.

“I can’t remain silent while the dignity of the Central African is being trampled underfoot, while innocent people are being robbed, while the just and well-earned fruit of our country is being destroyed and looted as though we were in a house of cards.

“I can’t remain silent when impunity reigns and a dictatorship of arms is being set up.”

Séléka, which means “alliance” in the local Sango tongue, was formed by the merger of six Islamist rebel groups from Sudan, Chad, Darfur and the Central African Republic.

The rebels stormed the presidential palace in the capital, Bangui, on 24 March 2013, forcing President François Bozizé to flee to Cameroon.

A number of members of the political opposition entered into a governing agreement with Séléka and the militia leader Michel Djotodia was proclaimed the new president.

On Monday 12 August prayers for peace will be held by members of the Catholic, Muslim and Protestant communities in Bouar.

Kindergartens and hospitals must continue to serve pork roasts and meatballs because “they are part of Danish culinary tradition,” says Denmark’s prime minister, Social Democrat Helle Thorning-Schmidt, in an interview with daily Jyllands-Posten.

The issue has been fuelling debate in Denmark since the beginning of the summer, when several kindergartens decided to stop providing pork because Muslim children were refusing to eat it.

The prime minister also suggested that meat that is halal [slaughtered according to Muslim rites] should be labelled as such so that Danes will know when they are eating it. However, she says there will be no law requiring it.

I Indict My Religion By Farid Ghadry

http://www.aina.org/news/20130811144053.htm

I indict Islam.

Yes, I indict it for ignoring the terror against two innocent British teens in Zanzibar who were doused with acid. I do not give a damn what the reasons were and what justification those bastard Islamists had to change permanently the good lives of two innocent young teens who were there to help Muslims in the first place.

What is Holy about Ramadan when the Muslim bastards in Zanzibar use it to commit the unholiest of acts?

I am really, really angry.

Where are our Muslim leaders to speak out against such terror and to commit, once and for all, to its eradication?

Where is the King of Saudi Arabia, or the President of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation? Cooperation on what? With the OIC’s silence, how could not anyone interpret “Cooperation” to mean to cooperate to disfigure the innocent?

Where is the Grand Imam of al-Azhar University, or the Arab League, or Ayatollah Khamenei, or the millions of other religious Muslim leaders?

Where is Erdogan of Turkey and the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are they silent in the face of such atrocities committed in the name of Islam?

Where are all our collective Muslim voices to indict these senseless acts not even animals in a jungle are capable of?

Islam has become synonymous with terror and the target of justifiable and global contempt. The religion I was born into, and which shelters 1.3 billion people, has turned into a weapon of global destruction against the other 5.7 billion people who do not adhere to Muslim principles.

Islam no longer exists for Islam. Islam exists today to destroy non-Muslims.

I indict all of Islam because the religion that is supposed to support the needy and the helpless has become a cult of terror against the self-sufficient and the enterprising.

I indict all the silent Muslim leaders for their weakness. With their silence, they are feeding these acts of barbarism to define Islam.

I indict them for all the acts of terror committed in the past against thousands upon thousands of innocent people.

I am really, really angry at all the Imams, the Grand Muftis, the Sheikhs, the Mawlawis, the Ayatollahs, the Emirs, the Kings, the Princes, and whatever titles they embrace.

At the end, if they do not indict these acts publicly and courageousely all of them share in the savagery of Zanzibar. That is their legacy.

The Muslim leaders in the OIC and the Arab League must awaken from their slumber by committing serious funds to re-educate our youth and to rid the world of the cancer within, instead of remaining silent or accommodating the evil source of Islamic terror.

It is obvious political correctness and generous aid by the West is not making a difference.

In fact, Western countries have donated hundreds of billions of Dollars in foreign aid to Muslim countries, and we Muslims pay back the West by dousing their children, who came to help our poor and disfranchised, with acid. It is truly sickening.

Something must change. The West must change course to help us find our way, the hard way. This status quo cannot go on.

If you want to help Islam, then it is time to tie your help with what our leaders do or say, and not by how much intelligence they deliver.

Otherwise, stop buying our oil and gas. Let us perish in our own waste. Maybe, then, our leaders will speak out and cooperate with the West based on equality and not based on them forcing Islam upon the rest of the world.

Enough is enough.  I am really, really angry.

May those British teens, and all who were injured by Islamic terror in the past, find peace and happiness. May they, and their families, forgive us for not speaking loudly enough.

The Wigger Fallacy

Abagond

What I call the Wigger Fallacy is the idea that being black in America is a matter of culture, of how you talk and act and think and dress. It is the mistake that wiggers make, who are white but try to act black.

It is a fallacy because what makes you black is nothing like that. It is how white people act towards you because of how you look. Ask any black person who grew up in white suburbia listening to rock music and speaking perfect White English.

It is this fallacy that seems to lie behind the spread of the idea that Bill Clinton was the first black president. Or that Barack Obama – and the black middle-class in general – is “not black enough”.

The fallacy is rooted in a confusion between race and culture. Yes, Black America does have a culture of…

Unpaid Interns Aren’t Protected By Sexual Harassment Laws

Unpaid interns aren’t legally protected from sexual harassment in the workplace because they don’t get paid. As ProPublica explains, without pay, interns aren’t considered “employees” under the Civil Rights Act, although company policies and state and local laws could protect them.

One woman who took an unpaid internship in Washington, DC was sexually harassed, so she filed a lawsuit. But it was ultimately dismissed because she wasn’t considered an “employee” and therefore had no grounds to file suit.

That story prompted DC City Councilor Mary Cheh to propose a bill that extended its Human Rights Act to protect unpaid interns, which the city passed in 2009. Other areas have taken notice of the problem. In June, Oregon passed a law that would protect interns from sexual harassment.

Some universities and colleges have also come to the defense of their students. UCLA, for example, requires that an employer to adhere to its sexual harassment policy to list an unpaid internship on its website.

The vulnerability of unpaid interns has been written about since at least 2010, but little to nothing has been done at the federal level. If laws were set up to protect interns who experience sexual harassment, they might be more willing to come forward. But right now, they must rely on recommendations from internships to get ahead in the job market. That means that if the company or state doesn’t have a law to protect them if they come forward, they may just end up with no recourse and no recommendation.

All of this is because of the widespread practice of hiring interns without paying them. Some have launched a fight against this practice that has just begun to change the culture of internships. After a court ruled that two unpaid interns should have been paid for their labor, 15 other lawsuits popped up, and the number will likely continue to grow.

Psycho Killer Gets “Real Man” Status In Ayn Rand’s Narcissistic Worldview

It is often said that if you want to truly know a person, then meet their friends.   With this truth in mind, it turns out that (not surprisingly), cult-philosopher of the right-wing and libertarian crowd, Ayn Rand, was a big fan of the disgusting sadist William Edward Hickman, who kidnapped and dismembered a 12 year old girl in 1927.

In her journals, Rand glowingly wrote that Hickman, “is born with a wonderful, free, light consciousness — [resulting from] the absolute lack of social instinct or herd feeling. He does not understand, because he has no organ for understanding, the necessity, meaning, or importance of other people … Other people do not exist for him and he does not understand why they should.”

Normal Americans (non-Republicans) spent the past year bearing witness to the clutches of teabaggers protesting health care (of all things) while waving various signs extolling Ayn Rand philosophy, believing themselves to be the “Atlas” who would be sure to shrug off the burdens that the unwashed masses inflict on their superiority when they dare demand a society that works for everyone, but truth be told, these teabaggers themselves are often the very “humanity of mud to be ground underfoot” and  “fuel to be burned” that Rand assigned to the working class. Ayn Rand herself has been called a textbook sociopath characterized by self-preoccupation as well as unapologetic lack of empathy.  In fact, a commitment to selfishness and a rejection of altruistic behavior are elevated to the the height of morality in her worldview.

Mideast Christians: endangered in their ancestral land

As new Islamist regimes in the Middle East condone religious intolerance and introduce Sharia and blasphemy laws, the long-term trend for Christians in their ancestral lands will only grow bleaker

http://www.thecommentator.com/article/4039/mideast_christians_endangered_in_their_ancestral_land

Last Saturday, Raymond Ibrahim reported on two more Muslim attacks on Egyptian churches, as “Egypt’s Christian Copts continue to be targeted and scapegoated for the ousting of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

As defenceless and abandoned as Mideast Christians seem today, it is worth remembering their historical roots, and recognising just how much the plight of Middle East Christians has deteriorated. Over 2,000 years ago, Christianity was born as a religion and spread from Jerusalem to other parts of the Levant, including territories in modern Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Egypt.

The Christian faith flourished as one of the major religions in the Middle East until the Muslim conquests of the 7th century. Despite Muslim domination of the region, Christians comprised an estimated 20 percent of the Middle East population until the early 20th century.

Today, however, Christians make up a mere 2-5 percent of the Middle East and their numbers are fast dwindling. Writing in the Winter 2001 issue of Middle East Quarterly, scholar Daniel Pipes estimated that Middle East Christians would “likely drop to” half of their numbers “by the year 2020” because of declining birth rates, and a pattern of “exclusion and persecution” leading to emigration.

The “Arab Spring” has only worsened conditions for the indigenous Christians of the Middle East. Like the Kurds, Middle East Christians are a stateless minority, struggling to survive in the world’s toughest neighborhood.

But the Kurds at least have enjoyed partial autonomy in Iraqi Kurdistan since 1991 and most of them are Sunni Muslim, making it easier for them to survive in the Muslim-dominated Middle East. Christians, on the other hand, are a religious minority that controls no territory and is entirely subject to the whims of their hosts. These host countries – with the exception of Israel – offer a grim future to Middle East Christians.

Back to Africa

Abagond

“Back to Africa” (1816- ) is the idea that blacks in America should go back to Africa. Its most famous champion was Marcus Garvey in the 1920s, but in America the idea goes back at least to the founding of the American Colonization Society (ACS) in 1816.

The ACS lasted till 1964. It founded Liberia, sending 13,000 blacks there from the 1820s onwards. Among ACS supporters:

  • White slave owners, who saw free blacks as a threat to slavery, both as possible troublemakers and as living examples that gave lie to the idea that blacks were fit only to be slaves.
  • Ordinary whites, who feared free black labour, who thought America was for whites.
  • Martin Delany and other blacks, who saw America as too racist for blacks ever to have much of a future there.

White abolitionists and most blacks were against the ACS: they saw blacks as…
