The ‘Feminist Library’ is facing eviction from the building that has been its home for 30 years.
Southwark Council has told the library that its rent will be increased on March 1 (the first day of Women’s History month) from £12,000 to £30,000 a year. The library says council officers are refusing to negotiate.
The volunteer-led charity is completely self-funding. Its collection of 7,000 books is a unique archive of feminist writing. It also provides facilities for women’s and community groups in London.
