District attorney who filed hate crime charges for painting over Black Lives Matter mural was backed by billionaire George Soros

A California district attorney who charged a couple with a hate crime for painting over a “Black Lives Matter” mural was backed by liberal billionaire George Soros.

Contra Costa County, California, District Attorney Diana Becton announced on Tuesday that Nichole Anderson and David Nelson, both white, were being charged with three misdemeanors, including a “violation of civil rights” hate crime charge, after they were caught on video painting over a Black Lives Matter street mural.

Becton justified the hate crime charges in a statement, saying, “We must address the root and byproduct of systemic racism in our country. The Black Lives Matter movement is an important civil rights cause that deserves all of our attention. The mural completed last weekend was a peaceful and powerful way to communicate the importance of Black lives in Contra Costa County and the country. We must continue to elevate discussions and actually listen to one another in an effort to heal our community and country.”

Becton received financial support of roughly $50,000 from Soros in 2018 as part of his broader push to fund left-wing district attorney campaigns across the country over the last several years.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Soros spent more than $2.7 million in California district attorney races during the 2018 election cycle and more than $16 million in 17 county races in other states, of which 13 of his candidates won.

Soros, through left-wing political organizations and PACs, has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to liberal political causes, including efforts to defund police departments, to release inmates from prison, to increase the Hispanic voter turnout with the goal of defeating President Trump, and to promote mass immigration.
