Taiwan looks forward to working with next U.S. administration: Tsai

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said Thursday that Taipei looks forward to working closely with the next U.S. administration regardless of who wins the presidential election on Nov. 8.

Taiwan hopes to deepen its relations with the United States and enhance bilateral exchanges and cooperation, creating a new milestone for the partnership, Tsai said, while receiving a delegation from the Heritage Foundation, led by its founder Edwin Feulner.

Tsai expressed her appreciation to the foundation for its support of Taiwan over the years and described Feulner as one of Taiwan‘s best friends.

She also recalled receiving congratulations from Feulner after winning the presidential election on Jan. 16.

On Taiwan being unable to attend the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) assembly this year, the president said Taiwan hoped to interact with other countries and gain access to flight safety information, but deeply regretted ICAO‘s refusal to invite Taiwan to the event.

She said the government is actively expanding Taiwan‘s involvement in the international community and currently promoting the “New Southbound Policy” to increase exchanges with countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia, in the hope of upgrading and transforming Taiwan‘s economy so as to improve international competitiveness.
