Japan marks first Mountain Day national holiday

Japan on Thursday celebrates its newest national holiday, “Yama no Hi” (Mountain Day).

Legislation to create the new holiday on August 11 was enacted in the Diet last year. It came after the Japanese Alpine Club and other mountain-related groups lobbied for the bill, claiming that Japan—where Shintoism’s animistic beliefs have shaped the culture—needed to celebrate its mountains.

The legislation states that the day is designed to share “opportunities to get familiar with mountains and appreciate blessings from mountains.”

A large chunk of Japan’s land mass is mountainous, and walking or trekking in the mountains is a popular pastime, particularly among older Japanese. The mountains also offer excellent skiing throughout the winter.

With Mountain Day, Japan now has 16 official holidays a year, the highest tally among the Group of Eight major powers.

Most of Japan’s national holidays celebrate something specific. These include the emperor’s birthday, Children’s Day, Coming-of-Age Day, Constitution Day, National Foundation Day and Marine Day, which is celebrated on the third Monday of July.

June is the only month without a national holiday.

Ottawa police background investigator resigns, says Somali-Canadian hired for ‘political reasons’

On the same day Abdirahman Abdi was pronounced dead, Ottawa police moved to hire a Somali-Canadian man who had failed a background check, prompting the civilian investigator in charge of vetting officers to resign, Postmedia has learned.

On July 25, just after 3 p.m. Abdi, 37, was pronounced dead in hospital after being arrested by police the day before on the steps of his Hilda Street apartment building. On the same day as his death, the decision was made to offer a job to an applicant.

In a letter of resignation, obtained by Postmedia, sent by civilian background investigator Christina Benson, Benson alleged the applicant was an “unsuitable” police candidate and that his hiring “is being done for political reasons to appease the Somali community.”

Pro-Israel protesters assaulted in Montreal

Pro-Israel activists who arrived in Montreal on Wednesday, August 10, 2016  to protest against an “antisemitic” conference were physically attacked by radical leftists minutes before the police arrived and separated the two groups.

The protest against the World Social Forum (WSF) was organized by the Jewish Defence League of Canada (JDL) which focuses its activity on fighting antisemitism in Canada.

According to B’nai Brith, a leading Canadian Jewish human rights organization, WSF is promoting anti-Semitism. As part of the WSF program, a workshop entitled “Terrorizm [sic], Wahabbism, Zionism”, organized by the Center of religious dialogue for peaceful coexistence, was set to be hosted by Seyed Ali Mousavi on August 12, 2016.

In a background information on the event which goes in line with the official policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the organizers accused the “world Zionism-capitalism” of standing behind ISIS and Islamophobia. In addition, they implicitly justified the Palestinian armed struggle against Israel, including actions that are deemed by the West and international human right organizations to be war crimes, crimes against humanity or terrorism.

Just as the protesters parked their vehicles and prepared to walk towards the venue in which the World Social Forum conference was taking place, they were spotted by leftist activists affiliated with the Solidarity Across Borders Anti-Racist Response Committee (SAB Antifa).

An eyewitness told CIJnews that Meir Weinstein, JDL’s National Director in Canada, was punched in the face, a woman was shoved and another woman scratched. The rival camps stayed at the same place chanting slogans. The police did not allow the pro-Israel protesters to advance towards the conference’s venue and advised them to arrive at a police station to file a complaint on the assault.

The “anti JDL” demonstration was endorsed, among others, by Palestinian and Jewish Unity (PAJU), the Anti-Racist Resistance Collective (CRAM), Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR Concordia), Independent Jewish Voices Canada, QPIRG Concordia, BDS-Québec, Anti-Fascist Action Montreal, Lezboï, Montreal Sisterhood, Dure Réalité, Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR McGill).

Woman who pleaded guilty to repeatedly molesting 14 year old boy she was trying to adopt won’t go to jail

Barbara Ellen:

do we seriously think that a female teacher sleeping
with a male pupil is on a par with a male teacher sleeping
with a girl pupil? I don’t.

A North Carolina woman has pleaded guilty to sex charges involving a 14-year-old boy who her family was in the process of adopting from the Philippines.

The StarNews of Wilmington (http://bit.ly/2b23gFI ) reports 43-year-old Christy Lynn Jaski pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of misdemeanor sexual battery. She was sentenced to three years of probation and must register as a sex offender for 30 years.

Prosecutor Lance Oehrlein says Jaski kissed and groped the boy sometime between December 2014 and January 2015.

Oehrlein says Jaski also sent messages to a friend in the Philippines admitting she had kissed the child. She was arrested in February 2015.

Jaski’s attorneys say Jaski hasn’t had any contact with the boy since he was removed from the Jaski family’s home and placed in another state.

Black Lives Matter Terrorists Blames Cop For Not Willingly Being Stabbed To Death

Black Lives Matter and an advocacy group for the homeless are incredibly claiming that a Cincinnati police officer was at fault for drawing his gun when a mentally ill man attacked the in his police SUV with a knife.

A Cincinnati homeless advocacy organization and a Black Lives Matter group are challenging the fatal police shooting of a 25-year-old man with a history of mental illness.

Chief Eliot Isaac said Officer Anthony Brucato was under “vicious, violent attack” by knife-wielding robbery suspect Jawari Porter when he fired six shots at Porter at Government Square early Sunday morning.

Video released Monday shows Porter lunging at Brucato in the driver’s seat of a police vehicle. Earlier video shows Porter appearing to hold a knife to the throat of a security guard at a Kroger store on Vine Street.

The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless and Black Lives Matter Cincinnati issued a joint statement saying Porter’s death was avoidable.

“The police officer had his gun drawn as soon as he opened the door. Inevitably this escalated the situation. This officer could have instead chosen a method of interaction meant to deescalate. After escalating the situation, and struggle ensued, the officer chose to shoot Mr. Porter. He had other options, including a partner coming to assist. Human life is far too important to not choose other options, even if doing so might increase immediate personal risk,” the GCCH said in a Facebook post.

The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless is drawing withering criticism on their Facebook page for their comments, and Black Lives Matter—Cincinnati islikewise being blasted by people siding with the police… and with good reason.

Here’s the security camera footage of Jawari Porter’s interactions with a security guard and the Cincinnati police.

A security guard at a Kroger confronts Porter and blocks his exit for reasons not explained.

Porter responds by drawing a knife and holding it to the security guard’s throat.

Not too long afterward, Cincinnati police drove up as Porter crossed the street. Porter noticed the police SUV, turns and approaches the SUV

The officer driving the SUV seeing Porter approaching with his knife drawn, and draws his weapon while presumably shouting commands. The passenger-side officer exits the vehicle.

Porter launches his knife attack and the officer, trapped in his vehicle, fires six times to defend his life as he partner runs around the rear of the vehicle to support him.

Porter is so intent on stabbing the driver that he forces his way into the vehicle even as he is being shot. Contrary to what you see in the movies and on television, handgun rounds are weak and will not throw a person backward when they are hit.

Porter collapses on top of the officer he attacked, inside the police SUV. The driver’s partner rushes around to pull Porter out of the vehicle and off the driver.

Both the passenger officer and Porter fall to the ground.

Freed from Porter’s body, the driver escapes the vehicle and turns back to cover Porter with his still-warm gun as his partner gets to his feet and they call for backup.

There was nothing more the officers could have done in this situation.

Tasers are not appropriate for an attack with a weapon, such as the knife the murderous Porter had in his hand. The only rational response in such a situation is to fire until the threat ends, which is precisely what this officer did.

The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless and Black Lives Matter reveal a near psychosis developing in some quarters that officers are never justified in defending themselves if the offender is a minority.

That is an indefensible, extremist position, and one that cannot be tolerated in a civil society.

Report: Another Disturbing Sexual Assault in Twin Falls

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO — A town that was recently rocked by the horrific gang-rape of a five-year-old girl by refugee boys has had an arrest in a case involving charges of another disturbing sexual assault case last weekend.

Mohammed Hussein I. Eldai, 28, is facing charges of felony sexual assault of a vulnerable adult for an attack that happened Friday afternoon.

The alleged victim, who has been diagnosed with mental retardation, encountered Eldai when she was out for a walk in the Saturday afternoon heat and laid down to take a nap.

As Twin Falls TV station KM TV reports:

She then laid on the sidewalk when her fatigue took over. That’s when she says 28-year-old Mohammed Hussein Eldai saw her and asked if she was okay.

Court documents say Eldai brought the woman to his house where he made her a drink. She told police Eldai touched her and exposed himself to her while he kept the victim in his bedroom.

Neither the media nor the local authorities have released information on why Mohammed Eldai was in Twin Falls, whether he is a U.S. citizen, or whether he has any connection to Twin Falls’s controversial refugee program. Sources say that Eldai required the services of an interpreter in court.

The June 2nd rape of a five-year-old garnered national attention after local politicians and media attempted to downplay or cover up the incident. In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, the victim’s father revealed that he had watched 30 seconds of the video of the horrific attack in that case.

Recently, local activists in Twin Falls have invited both presidential candidates to come to the area to see the effects of the refugee program on the town and to discuss the related issues of immigration and the refugee program.

The alleged perpetrator has been arrested and is now being held at the Twin Falls County Jail. His bail bond has been set at $10,000, and his preliminary hearing is set to be held on August 19th.
