An annual summer festival has gotten underway in the northeastern Japanese city of Sendai.
The Sendai Tanabata Festival dates back more than 400 years. It is one of the major summer festivals in Japan’s northeastern Tohoku region.
The main streets in Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture have been colorfully decorated.
A man from Tochigi Prefecture north of Tokyo said it was his first time to attend the festival, and that he was amazed by its size.
A student from Germany said she was very excited and that the decorations were astonishing.
The 3-day festival will continue through to Monday.
More than 2-million visitors are expected to attend.
