Democratic Party to pledge reforms to finance social security costs

The main opposition Democratic Party will pledge in the July 10 House of Councillors election to enhance social security by financing the costs through reforms and oppose revising the Constitution’s war-renouncing Article 9, sources close to the matter say.

Democratic Party leader Katsuya Okada had argued earlier that the government should rely on deficit-covering bonds to make up for the loss of revenues to be created by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s recent decision to delay a consumption tax hike to October 2019 from April 2017.

But the party apparently backed off from the idea, saying in an envisioned campaign platform that measures to enhance the country’s pension system, medical services and nursing care as well as steps to support child-rearing would be funded by “thoroughly revamping the administrative structure and by undergoing painful reforms.”

It is also expected to promise to stick to the country’s goal of turning the primary balance into a surplus by fiscal 2020—which would allow Japan to finance its annual budget, excluding debt-servicing costs, without issuing new bonds.

But observers believe it is not easy to finance social security costs through further government reforms, possibly leaving the Democratic Party open to criticism for lacking concrete plans.

On the postwar Constitution, which Abe is eager to amend, the Democratic Party will pledge its opposition to revising Article 9, which stipulates that Japan forever renounces war and bans the country from maintaining armed forces.

It will also vow to scrap new security legislation that largely expands the role of the Self-Defense Forces overseas, saying the legislation “rocks the Constitution’s pacifism.”

But the campaign pledge is expected to state that the party “envisages a future-oriented Constitution,” according to the sources.

Ombudsman calls for laws on tree management

The Ombudsman, Connie Lau, on Tuesday called for the enactment of tree management laws as soon as possible. She said current efforts to maintain them were piecemeal.

Lau also said she was concerned about the lack of a centralised mechanism to deal with trees on government land.

The responsibility is currently being shared by various government departments, with the Tree Management Office (TMO) acting as a central coordinator. But many have described the TMO as a “toothless tiger” as the other departments are not accountable to it.

Lau also said there was a lack of a proper regime to regulate trees on private land. She said this was posing a severe safety risk.

But Lau said her office did not find any irregularities with the felling of four trees on a stonewall at Bonham Road last August. She said the trees were showing signs of deterioration and were at risk of collapsing. Lau said it was therefore appropiate for the Highways Department to remove them.

Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ goes on trial

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page appeared in a Los Angeles court for a civil trial that opens on Tuesday in which they are accused of stealing the opening chords of their 1971 classic “Stairway to Heaven” from another band.

Plant, 67, and Page, 72, did not speak to each other or their lawyers as they appeared in federal court. Both sported long gray hair and Page wore a three-piece suit.

The lawsuit alleges that the opening chords of their song was stolen from the 1967 instrumental “Taurus” by the band Spirit.

U.S. District Judge Gary Klausner in Los Angeles said in April that a jury might find “substantial” similarity between the first 2 minutes of “Stairway” and “Taurus,” and to let it decide whether Plant and Page were liable for copyright infringement.

Trial in the case is set to begin later on Tuesday with jury selection, followed by opening arguments.

The lawsuit was brought by Michael Skidmore, a trustee for the late Randy Wolfe, also known as Randy California, Spirit’s guitarist and the composer of “Taurus.”

Skidmore said Page may have been inspired to write “Stairway” for Led Zeppelin after hearing Spirit perform “Taurus” while the bands toured together in 1968 and 1969, but that Wolfe never received credit.

“Stairway to Heaven” is considered one of the most widely heard compositions in rock history and is the signature song of Led Zeppelin.

Earlier on Tuesday, Klausner ruled on a string of motions including one that would limit the testimony of Spirit bassist Larry Knight to just his observations of interactions between Page and Wolfe. Knight would not be allowed to give direct quotes or discuss exactly what was said between Page and Wolfe.

Larry Iser, an attorney who has represented the Beatles and Michael Jackson and is not directly involved in the case, said in a phone interview the opening riff in dispute, which features a minor key and a descending base line, is a common musical device.

It has been used on the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Led Zeppelin’s own recording “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You,” Iser said.

Attorneys for Led Zeppelin have argued the chord progressions cited in the civil lawsuit were so clichéd that they did not deserve copyright protection.

Canadian Imam: in Islam gays should be executed, homosexuality goes with Zionism

Dr. Abdullah Hakim Quick is a Canadian historian, social activist and religious leader of African and Native American descent, who learned Islamic Studies at the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia and completed his MA and PhD in history at the History Department of the University of Toronto.

According to his official website, Quick has served as a special advisor to the Toronto Board of Education, the Ontario Science Centre and the Royal Ontario Museum as well as a regular columnist in the religion page of The Toronto Star. He was also a guest lecturer at York University (Toronto) and McGill University and a member of the Chaplains Association of the University of Toronto.

He has developed and facilitated workshops and training sessions for diverse organizations such as Children’s Aid Society, Metropolitan Toronto School Boards, Family Service Association of Metro Toronto, Canadian Museums Association, Canadian Institute for International Affairs, the Canadian Churches Forum for Global Ministries, Elementary Teachers Association of York Region, Metro Toronto School for the Deaf and the Scarborough Public Library Board.

For over ten years, Quick was the Director of the Islamic Social Services and Resources Association.Currently, Quick is residing in Toronto, Canada and is the Head of the History Department of Al Maghrib Institute and the Director of Outreach for the Canadian Council of Imams.

Shaykh Abdullah Hakim Quick implicitly condemned the Orlando massacre (June 12, 2016) in which 49 people were murdered by an American Muslim in a gay nightclub. He implied that the attacker, Omar Siddiqui Mateen, was a “sick Muslim” who committed “crazy actions.”

The following is Shaykh Abdullah Hakim Quick’s Facebook posting on June 13, 2016:

Have no Fear!

Islam will not be broken by Haters who try to blame Muslims for every evil, or sick Muslims who use the name of Islam to hide their crazy actions or extremists who attack people who are trying to show balance and humanity.

Almighty Allah has perfected His religion and completed the Message. The question is: How will we fare? Will we be ready to stand up to our actions on the Day when all will be questioned?

Look at the powerful presence of Islam in ancient lands as here at the Central Mosque in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. Surely Allah is the Greatest.

In an undated lecture in Sydney, Australia, Shaykh Abdullah Hakim Quick said that according to Islam the penalty for homosexuality is death and this Allah’s ruling cannot be changed.

He further implied that Zionism and Jews are working together with homosexuals and that they will join the army of the Dajjal or Antichrist, the ultimate enemy of Islam, before being killed by the Muslim believers.

The following are excerpts from Shaykh Abdullah Hakim Quick’s lecture:

There are some dangerous sites and maybe the groups like ISNA and the people who are on the site would know. I got a list once myself. There’s a whole list of sites where the people are Christian missionaries and they say like True Islam and stuff like that. So you go to the website, you think it’s Islam but it’s not.

They even have a gay Muslim site, I seek refuge in Allah (اعوذ باالله). They have this thing now, you know.

We have this problem in Canada too. They call themselves ‘From a blood clot’ (من علق). They are always talking about this blood clot and clot (علق) and stuff.

So they founded a group and they came to us in Toronto, and they said they want to have a masjid (mosque), their own masjid (mosque), because what happened in Toronto, I don’t know if it happened here, but the gays are all in one section, they have a place where they pick each other up.

So there was racism. So all the brown gays were all together. So then the Muslims ones they found themselves together, and they went to a community centre, and the government gave them a grant and they said: you are a minority in a minority.

And so they came and called me and said: we want to have our own centre and we call ourselves ‘From a Blood Clot’ (من علق), which is a gay, lesbian, bisexual Islamic support group as they call themselves.

So he said: what is the position of Islam on homosexuality? They ask me. So newspaper, right? So I said: put my name in the paper. The position is death. And we cannot change Islam.

But then they said to me: this is a question you got to consider. They said: what happens if a homosexual comes to the majid (mosque)? What are you going to do? So he said: Allah forgives all sins (إِنَّ الله يغفر الذنوب جميعا).

If he is serious, and a person came to me, and he came in the office and and he said he was homosexual, cried. I said: what happened to you? And he said: my father abused me. Heis a Muslim. So I… said: brother, you know your are sick. He said: I’m sick.

So we sent him to a Muslim psychiatrist, so he can work through his problem, and then bring him back into the masjid (mosque).

So anything can can come now these days. Anything is going to come at us, but we cannot allow in the name of Islam gay masjid (mosque) to come. We cannot allow this, man. And they’re trying to do this.

Last summer, they had what they call gay pride parade. They have gotten it in Sydney [Australia] here? [people from the audience say: yes]. Sydney is a targeted city, right?

[In] Toronto they have seven hundred fifty thousand homosexuals, right? And they said wereare queer and we’re here and we’re not going away, as they have said. And they’re marching in the parade and the Mayor of the City came up, marched with them.

Even in the time of Lut, peace be upon him (عليه السلام)… nothing like this, and then the Mayor marched with them. And then they have a float for each religion. And they have some Muslim float called a-Salam (peace السلام) and Muslims are out there.

And Toronto Board of Education now, that are teaching homosexuality. You know I have a subject, they said they have a new rule where the teacher must talk about homosexuality in every subject. Even in math class. How can you talk about math? John and Jim equals John? I don’t know, man. How can you talk about it in math?…

The Muslims are in a state of like frenzy now, frenzy, because of the Liberal nature of the government, right?

[Question from the audience whether the “Jews” are behind homosexuality]

It [homosexuality] goes with Zionism. And really it seems like, Allah knows best (الله اعلم), if they are Dajjal’s (Antichrist دجال) army while it is mostly Jews (يهود) but probably there will be homosexuals with them too. Allah knows best (الله اعلم)

Canadian Imam on Orlando massacre: “This system (democracy) does not represent us”

Mazin AbdulAdhim, a prominent Imam of Iraqi descent in London, Ontario who is affiliated with the radical Islamic global movement of Hizb ut-Tahrir, calls on Muslims to wake up from the illusion that the Western governments represent them, to disavow democracy, to follow the true teachings of Islam, and to work together for re-establishing the Islamic State – the Caliphate.

In a Facebook posting dealing with the aftermath of the massacre of 50 people at Orlando gay club carried by American Muslim (June 12, 2016), AbdulAdhim wrote among other things the following:

It’s amazing that Muslims think that any amount of explaining will make the growing anti-Islam sentiment go away…

It’s amazing that Muslims still have not grasped the fact that Capitalism – including its media – views Islam as a threat and a competitor to its interests in the Muslim lands, and an alternative system that could quickly end Capitalism’s global influence.

It’s amazing that Muslims still demand justice from a system that has killed literally millions of their own people, and continuously kills more every single day.

It’s amazing that Muslims expect justice from governments that have never provided justice to 3rd world nations, rather they only fund tyrants and prop up and protect murderous, despot regimes.

It’s amazing that Muslims still have not absorbed the fact that this is not our system, these are not our laws, and these are not our governments. This system does not represent us, and it will not protect us if those behind it decide that we are no longer worth protecting.

It’s amazing that Muslims continuously ignore the fact that our Creator gave us our own system and obligated it upon us, and He will never allow us to solve these countless problems we face today until we return to His system that He ordained for us in His final message

We are the ones who have turned away from the systems revealed by Allah (swt), and look at this most miserable life we live, constantly apologizing, lacking in dignity, and never having proper representation of the proper implementation of Islam.

And we are the ones who have caused the spread of corruption throughout the land and the sea, since we abandoned our positions in implementing Islam on the political level, andleft those positions for the worst of humanity to occupy.

Stop apologizing, stop making excuses, and stop expecting things to get better within this system. There is only one solution, and you all know what it is…

We will not have protection until we return to this protective shield that Allah (swt) gave us. Until then, enjoy begging the media for mercy – and you will find none.

Few months ago AbdulAdhim slammed the Western media for its “biased” coverage of ISIS attacks in Brussels, Belgium.

The media in the world today belongs to the colonialist West. Only their people’s lives have a value to it, only their property have a value to them, and only their lands should be protected and immune to attack,”wrote Mazin AbdulAdhim on his Facebook page on March 23, 2016.

He added, “Muslims can be bombed daily, and thousands can die daily, and a thousand airports can be turned to rubble, and it wouldn’t matter to the global media, because the colonialists own every major media outlet globally, and Muslims are nothing more than rebellious slaves – and an opponent and an enemy – to the colonialists, and neither a friend nor an ally.”

Let’s not act like this attack in Brussels is any worse than the tens of attacks on civilian targets perpetrated by the colonialist West every month,” Mazin AbdulAdhim concluded.

Mazin AbdulAdhim vehemently opposes the Caliphate founded by ISIS in Iraq and Syria and does not accept the authority of its self proclaim Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Rather he advocates for a new Caliphate that will implement the Islamic Law word for word, extend its authority over all the Muslim lands and unite all Muslims in the world under the flag of Islam.

In a video clip on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr (July 17, 2015) at the end of the month of Ramadan, Imam Abdul Adhim explained that the Muslim Ummah (nation) is one body, and all its woes in the different parts of split up Muslim lands are originated only from the lack of a home for Islam and the absence of an Islamic regime that is able to represent the Ummah, as all Muslim regimes today are “traitors” or serving the interest of the “enemy” (the picture of US President Barack Obama was shown in the background).

The only solution, said Imam Abdul Adhim, is to call for the implementation of the teachings of Islam as a whole, to teach the Ummah about the Islamic ruling system, the economic system, the social system, theforeign policy etc. and categorically rejecting the idea of secularizing Islam. Abdul Adhim’s role model is Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam, who brought about a political change by first founding a group of supporters, then changed the beliefs of the society and later changed the political loyalties in society and of the army.

The Canadian Imam emphasized that this call is not addressing the Muslim Ummah only, but also is intended to spur the Muslim armies to take a concrete action against the “colonial puppet” regimes and support the call for establishing the Caliphate. “We need an Imam, we need a Khaleefah [Caliph] to unite us,” concluded Imam Abdul Adhim stressing once again that it is the responsibility of both the Ummah and the armies to make it happen.

Imam Abdul Adhim expresses his deep commitment to the ideology of Hizb ut-Tahrir. The following are excerpts of his recorded speeches in recent years:

Pledging allegiance only to the Islamic Caliphate

“So this is the problem that without a Khilafah [Caliphate, Islamic State] Islam cannot be implemented and individually are obligated to give a baya [allegiance] to a Khalifah [Caliph, head of the Islamic State]…

“So it is required for us to give a baya [allegiance] to a Khalifah [Caliph, head of the Islamic State], but since there is no Khilafah [Caliphate] you can’t have a Khalifah [Caliph] therefore it is fard [obligatory] upon us to re-establish the Khilafah [Caliphate] so we can give a baya [allegiance] to a Khalifah [Caliph]…

“And that’s why it is a call not only to the brothers here, not only to the brothers who are watching online, everybody who has any capacity of spreading this word all the way to the armies of the Muslims, our brothers and sisters. This word has to reach them. They have to understand that this is the only way forward. It’s the only way to achieve the nasr [support] of Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla [Owner of Greatness and Reverence] is to support this dean [religion] and this call to Khilafah [Caliphate].”

Rejecting democracy

“And that’s what I want to do. I want to present to you the alternative view, the view that says that voting in a secular democratic system, in a system that will not implement Islam, that does not implement Islam, to vote for anybody to become a legislator in such a system it is something that Islam forbids and I want to present the evidence for this…

“What our identity is? We are Muslims, strewn about all across the planet without anybody who represents us. We are Muslims who are actually belong to the Khilafah [Caliphate]. The Khilafah [Caliphate] represents us and it was destroyed in 1924. We are responsible for working to re-establish it. So this is the first thing. We must work to establish the Khilafah [Caliphate].”

Supporting cutting off thieves’ hands

“The punishments: cutting a hand of a thief and whipping the fornicator and so on. What do you do in these situations? How does it work? This is the last resort after you’ve established this system… You’ve showed them that if you do it the punishment is so severe it will stop them from doing it.”

India: Delhi Police Arrests Woman Who Filed Fake Rape Cases To Extort Money

Delhi police have arrested a 21-year-old woman and her live-in-partner for filing false rape cases.

The arrest was made on Monday, two days after the woman filed a complaint against two youth, accusing them of drugging and raping her in a moving car.

However police said the allegations were later proven to be false and their motive was to extort money from the two youth who are pursuing their MBA courses from different universities in Australia and India.

The duo had demanded Rs. 10 lakhs from the youths to withdraw the case. The youth had already paid them Rs. 50,000 and secretly filmed the handing over of the remaining Rs. 9.5 lakhs.

Later it was revealed that the couple had earlier used the same tactics to extort money from three youths in east Delhi’s Anand Vihar in February after accusing them of gangraping and throwing them out of a moving car.
