Labour Party lawmaker Lee Cheuk-yan has urged the MTR Corporation not to raise fares this year despite a sharp drop in profits.

On Friday the rail operator announced its annual profit fell 16.7 percent to just under HK$13 billion last year.

Lee said the fare adjustment mechanism should be reviewed as soon as possible to stop MTR from raising fares while enjoying big profits.

The MTR made more than $2.3 billion from selling homes here in Hong Kong last year. In 2014, the figure was $4.2 billion. MTR’s chief executive officer, Lincoln Leung, said the company will add more shop space to its property mix.

He said in five years’ time, the corporation aims to add over 120,000 square metres of shopping space. Underlying profit, including the valuation of investment property, was also down 6 percent to HK$10.9 billion.

RCMP not charging jihadis who say ‘sorry’

The RCMP is focusing on “direct interventions” with the dozens of known jihadis on Canadian soil, instead of laying charges, Commissioner Bob Paulson has revealed.

CSIS director Michel Coulombe told a Senate committee on Monday there are currently 60 Canadians known to have returned home from going abroad to participate in terrorist activities. Their activities range from engaging in paramilitary exercises to providing logistical support to receiving jihadist education and training. On top of this, there are another 180 Canadians who remain abroad for such purposes and could eventually return home.

According to the Criminal Code, leaving the country or attempting to leave to participate in terror is illegal.

Workshop on methods of “sharing the message of Islam” held at the University of Alberta

http://en.cijnews.com/?p=29630

Muslim Students’ Association at the University of Alberta (MSA UofA) held in campus a “Da’wah [propagating Islam] training course” in order to teach participants the “methods of how to best share the message of Islam.”

The workshop, which was delivered by Dr. and Imam Reda Bedeir, took place on January 16, 2015 at at ECHA L1-190 with reportedly the attendance of 100.

On January 15, 2015, MSA Uofa posted the following on its Facebook invitation page:

“Islam Awareness Week 2015 and the Generation Muslim Conference are still 2 weeks away, but in the lead-up to those anticipated events, Dr Reda Bedeir is in Edmonton THIS WEEKEND for a few memorable events that you don’t want to miss!

Tomorrow (Jan 16) Dr Reda Bedeir will deliver a course called “Da’wah by the Book” at the UofA and on Saturday (Jan 17) he will join us at Rahma Mosque/MAC Islamic Centre for a Community Potluck and Mini-Conference entitled “UMMAH RISING.”

“We round out the weekend (Jan 18) with a seminar at the UofA entitled: “A Big Deal: Answering Everyday Muslim Dilemmas” which is sure to address questions we often have. You DO NOT want to miss out! See the links below for full details!”

On January 16, 2015, MSA Uofa updated: “Alhamdulillah, about 100 people joined us for Dr Reda Bedeir’s Da’wah training course to learn the methods of how to best share the message of Islam!”

Muslim Students’ Association (MSA UofA) “was founded in 1982 to satisfy the spiritual, material, and social needs of students on campus in accordance with the teachings of Islam.”

On its official website it is mentioned that MSA UofA “accommodates the needs of Muslim students at the U of A as well as throughout Edmonton while promoting awareness and understanding of Islam to the university community and the general public.”

Among its activities: accommodating daily prayers, hosting Friday prayers, orientation for new Muslim students, organizing lecture seminars and social activities, Da’wah (calling Muslims to follow the teachingsof Islam and introducing Islam to non believers) training seminars and Islam Awareness Week.

MSA’s constitution: “[MSA] members should all pledge to serve Allah by obeying His commands, following the path of His Messenger

The MSA UofA is Islamic in its nature. The constitution of the organization prescribes sanctions against members who “commit serious offences under University Code, Canadian Law, or Islamic Law (Shari’ah)” and direct the Executive Committee (“Shura”) to consider “consultation with numerous Shuyukh [prominent Muslim leaders] of the city [Edmonton] and advisors” in case of “Executives who commit offences of a reprehensible nature be they offences under secular or Islamic law.”

According to the constitution one of the duties of MSA UofA’s President (“Amir”) is to “ensure that the MSA and its members conduct themselves in accordance with Canadian Law, Islamic Law and the University Code.”

The Vice-President of MSA UofA has to “report any direct or peripheral inconsistencies in MSA activities with relation to Islamic jurisprudence to the President, and where necessary, to the MSA executive.”

The constitution, embedded with Quranic verses and hadiths as a source of inspiration and guidance, also rules that “after the President is elected, [MSA] members should all pledge to serve Allah by obeying His commands, following the path of His Messenger.”

MSA’s guest speaker: Extremist Imam who advocates for Sharia Law and opposes democracy

MSA UofA states that its activities are aimed also at “people from diverse backgrounds and faiths” and that it is considered “one of the most active Muslim organizations” in Edmonton:

“In collaboration with other groups, and independently, we facilitate events that are enjoyable, memorable, and most importantly bring people from diverse backgrounds and faiths together to create a community of understanding. Our events attract students from campus, as well, as people from off campus. Alhamduillah (All Praise belongs to God), we are one of the most active Muslim organizations in the city despite the fact that we are only a student group. We have had numerous events discussing different topics with great guest speakers. We hope to continue in this endeavor of success, in sha Allah (God willing).”

According to the MSA UofA, one of its past guest speakers was Abdur Raheem Green (born Anthony Vatswaf Galvin Green), the founder of iERA international which established branches in Canada under the name iERA Canada.

The British Telegraph reported (May 24, 2014) that the Islamic Education and Research Academy (iERA) “is being investigated by the official watchdog amid allegations that its leaders promote anti-Semitism and have called for homosexuals and female adulterers to be stoned to death.”

On 30 November 2014, the Telegraph reported that the iERA was “closely linked to a number of the ‘Portsmouth jihadis’ – six young men from the Hampshire city who travelled together to fight for Islamic State (ISIL) in Syria.” iERA denied that the Portsmouth group were part of the IERA organisation, but added:”However, Portsmouth Dawah Team members, including Hassan and Jaman, dressed in IERA T-shirts to proseltyse and used IERA banners and literature on their street stall. The group was last year described by Mission Dawah, part of IERA, as ‘our team from Portsmouth.’”

The following are excerpts of Green’s speeches during the last few years:

Islam is not compatible with democracy – “Whoever believes that it is permissible and allowed to judge and to legislate in contradiction with Allah’s judgment and legislation is without doubt a disbeliever… If democracy means that sovereignty is with the people, that the people have the right to decide what’s halal [permitted] and haram [prohibited] and it’s up to them, then no Muslim with any mustard seed of iman [faith] can agree with this… Islam is not compatible with democracy if we mean by democracy that people have the right to legislate and people have sovereignty… What they have in the West, actually in my opinion, is the allusion of democracy. It’s the allusion of democracy. They make people think and believe that they have a choice, that they can influence things, but in reality they can’t change anything.”

Nationalism is against Islam values – “Nationalism is something in Islam that is really haram [prohibited] and it is Jahiliyyah [ignorance of divine guidance] and whoever calls for nationalism they call to Jahiliyyah and whoever fights for nationalism fights for Jahiliyyah.”

Jews and Christians are not to be trusted – “Do not take the Jews and the Christians or the mushrikeen [polytheists] as your awliya [supporter, guardian or protector]. What is the word awliya, what does it mean? It has a meaning of friendship, close friendship. It has the meaning of your advisers, your protectors.”

Adulterers should be stoned to death – “Why do you chop the hand of the thief? Why do you stone the adulterer and adulteress to death? Why do you chop the hand and the leg of the one who commits violent robbery and leave them to bleed to death or crucify them? All of these – to deter the people from being evil and committing evil.”

Homosexuality is evil – “First of all I don’t like to use this word gay. This word gay to use it is already to be fooled by the propaganda of these people. OK. This word is used in order to make this evil and vile act acceptable in society. They should be called at least homosexuals. This is the least. Better to use a more derogatory term like sodomites.”

Wife beating is permissible in principle – “The husband is allowed to prevent her from evil to apply some type of physical force. This is a type of a very light beating. In fact, as some has mentioned it is just to hit with the miswak [20cm long teeth cleaning twig].”

Canadian editor: Hamas rocket attacks on Tel Aviv revived the pride of the Muslim nation

http://en.cijnews.com/?p=29695

Mohamad Hisham Khalifeh (محمد هشام خليفة), a Canadian of Lebanese descent, the founder, CEO and Editor in Chief of Al Forqan Newspaper‎ (جريدة الفرقان) printed in Windsor, Ontario and distributed inWindsor, London and Detroit, has recently said to the Windsor Star that “we do support all kinds of resistance.”

When asked by the Windsor Star (March 3, 2016) to comment on his controversial editorial about the Palestinian al-Quds/ Knife Intifada and the “sacred duty of jihad”, Khalifeh was quoted as saying the following: That’s not correct. It wasn’t said in that phrase. The editorial was saying we support Palestinians resisting the Israeli occupation. That’s the main thing… We don’t support any terror attacks on civilians,” Khalifeh said. “But “we do support all kinds of resistance.”

In previous editorial (Al Forqan, Issue 18, July – August 2014, p. 1) entitled “Gaza of Glory and the Lessons of the Resistance/ Struggle”, Khalifeh said that the “sacred duty of jihad” is being fulfilled by Hamas and other Palestinian armed militias which launched rockets attacks on Tel Aviv, Haifa and other cities in Israel. The following is Khalifeh‘s editorial (originally in Arabic):

“Gaza of Glory and the Lessons of the Resistance/ Struggle

“The brutal war on Gaza waged by the Israeli enemy was not unexpected. One who watches the news knows that the Zionist entity is always looking for the appropriate opportunity to launch an onslaught on the Palestinian Resistance [meaning the armed/ terrorist organizations operating in the Gaza Strip and lead by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad] and each time it drags the tails of defeat while being kicked out of the land of Gaza of Glory.

“We should learn from the lessons of the war on Gaza and read between its lines in order to develop a clear approach regarding the struggle and resistance.

“We should also know with certainty who sides with the Palestinian issue and who trades on it and from the shadow throughout decades he has been stating that he is the sole resistant in the region, and secretly he is the certain collaborator of the brutal entity.

“We learn from the war on Gaza how the peoples of the region and the world sympathized with right owners and the oppressed. The protests spread in the streets of the Western cities in support of them at the time some of the Arab governments and its recruited media outlets condemned the jihadist Palestinian factions!

“We learn from the lessons of the war on Gaza that the just jihad is [the jihad] on the pure land of Palestine aimed at the Zionist enemy and his collaborators, the oppressive and dictatorial regimes,[We learn from the lessons of the war on Gaza] that the sacred duty of jihad does not mean that we kill each other under the pretext of building an Islamic state or the protection of sacred shrines, while the enemy lurks us await for our turns of misfortune.

“We should learn from the war on Gaza how the sons [operatives] of al-Qassam [Brigades, the military/ terrorist wing of Hamas] and the other fighting factions revealed a creative development thatrevived in the soul of the entire [Muslim] nation the ecstasy and the pride of the qualitative development [manufacturing weapons] achieved by the fighting factions in the air, land and sea which enabled them from day one and without exaggeration or propaganda of the media to strike Israel’s heartland, [the City of] Tel Aviv and the area before and beyond [the City of] Haifa with selfmanufactured rockets and and airplanes [drones] which are the pride of the Palestinian industry.

Truly, these lessons you would learn only in the school of glory of Gaza.”
