The Jewish student organization Hillel at the University of Toronto has filed a formal complaint to the administration of the university, protesting the upcoming event in campus entitled “Palestinian Popular Resistance: Building the Student Movement.”
The planned panel on January 12 with Noura Erakat and Nada Elia is organized by the pro Palestinian GSU BDS Committee and endorsed by the group Students Against the Israeli Apartheid. The Jewish Defence League (JDL) has already announced its intention to confront the event.
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) condemned the event, explaining that “the term ‘popular resistance’ – particularly in the current context – means acts of violence against Israelis” and that “the use of this term by event organizers can reasonably be construed to endorse the current wave of Palestinian terror attacks.”
Total Palestinian Support for the Knife Terror and the Al-Quds Intifada
The so-called State of Palestine, the Palestinian Authority, the PLO, the Fatah movement and all other Palestinian organizations, fully support the Palestinian intifada which is portrayed as “popular resistance.”
The Fatah Central Committee, convened on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah. Fatah is led by Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) who also serves as president of the state of Palestine, chairman of the Palestinian Authority, and leader of the PLO.
The decisions taken by the Fatah Central Committee shed light on the Palestinian leadership’s policy toward Israel, as described in the Palestinian media and detailed below:
“The [Central] Committee discussed…the increase in severe attacks against members of our Palestinian people in the occupied state of Palestine (the West Bank, Al-Quds, and the Gaza Strip), including the field executions… The meeting began with readings of Surat Al-Fatihah in remembrance of the souls of the heroic martyrs, and it [the Central Committee] conveyed its condolences and appreciation to the families of the martyrs with hopes for the speedy recovery of the wounded, emphasizing its determination to continue to act in every way to have the prisoners freed and the bodies of the heroic martyrs returned.”
The Central Committee did not condemn the acts of violence and terror being perpetrated by Palestinians as part of the Al-Quds Intifada, which is also called the Knives Intifada. On the contrary, it characterized the foiling of terror attacks as “executions,” chose to call the perpetrators “heroes,” and promised to assist their families. The Palestinian leadership thereby gave full backing to the continuation of the terror wave against Israel.
According to the Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between September 13, 2015 – January 2, 2016, 27 Israelis have been killed and 279 wounded – 25 of them seriously. Palestinian new wave of terrorism included 100 stabbings, 37 shootings and 22 car rammings in addition to firing rockets (from Gaza), detonating explosive charges, and many hundreds incidents of stone throwing and firebombings.
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, “the current wave of terrorist attacks is part of the PA’s strategy of “popular resistance” (i.e., popular terrorism) adopted by the PA and Fatah at the Sixth Fatah conference in August 2009.”
TAIPEI–A senior mainland affairs official said Thursday that the hotline between Taiwan and mainland China will only be used to discuss “critical and confidential” issues, the key points of which will be made known to the Legislature if necessary.
Lin Chu-chia (林祖嘉), deputy minister of the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會), said since its inauguration on Dec. 30, 2015, the MAC-Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO, 國台辦) hotline has not been used.
The hotline was set up for discussing only urgent and critical matters, and is not supposed to be used often, Lin told a regular press briefing.
He noted that during the 30-minute talk on Dec. 30 between MAC Minister Hsia Li-yan (夏立言) and TAO Minister Zhang Zhijun (張志軍) , Hsia expressed the hope that negotiations on a trade-in-goods agreement and opening offices in each other’s territory will be concluded early.
Lin said the MAC has not set regulations on using the hotline but will record what is discussed on it. The contents of the discussion are not supposed to be made public but the main points, if necessary, will be made available to the Legislature, he added.
Both sides have agreed that Taiwan’s Straits Exchange Foundation and China’s Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits that are authorized to conduct routine affairs will set up an office in each other’s territory to facilitate their official functions.
Negotiations on this matter have now been narrowed down to office and residence security, personal safety and code of conduct for officials to be stationed in each other’s territory, Lin said.
Regarding the progress of cross-strait talks on signing a trade-in-goods pact, Deputy Economics Minister Shen Jong-chin (沈榮津) said a half-day talk was held in Beijing a day earlier to “narrow the gap” between the two sides.
“Our officials tried to reduce import tariffs on our industrial and agricultural exports to China, as expected and demanded by our business community,” Shen said.
He said Taiwan’s delegates also urged their Chinese counterparts to speed up negotiations on the merchandise trade pact since the free trade agreement between China and South Korea had taken effect early last month.
The trade-in-goods agreement is a big deal for Taiwan’s industries that must not be ignored, Shen said, adding that efforts to help them secure a better trade deal must not be suspended.
“If an agreement is reached, the government will not put it into effect until the Legislature has given it the nod. So there will not be a question of ‘jumping the line,'” he said.
Some media have reported that negotiations on the trade pact have been going on in secret so it can be signed before the Jan. 16 elections.
The Cabinet’s spokesman Sun Lih-chyun (孫立群) dismissed such reports as “non-sense.”
Hundreds members of the Shiite Muslim community in the Greater Toronto Area demonstrated on Sunday, January 3, in front of the American Consulate in Toronto against the execution of the Shiite scholar and dissident Sheikh Baqir al-Nimr by the Saudi regime.
Blaming the US for supporting “injustice” by supplying weapons to Saudi Arabia, the political and spiritual leaders of the Toronto Shiite community condemned the “illegitimate” Saudi regime, called for the “liberation” of Saudi Arabia, Palestine and all other Arab countries controlled by “puppet” regimes.
One of the speakers was the Shiite cleric, Syed Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi, Pakistani born who grew up in Canada. In his passionate speech, Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi emphasized that the Shiites are not afraid of death, rather they wish to die and gain martyrdom in the path of Allah and for the cause of Islam.
The following is a transcript of Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi’s speech: (14:57-16:26)
“Maybe one day we will have the same status as martyrs who have given their lives for justice. We’re not afraid of dying.
“What we are afraid of is not to be able to do our duty and our justice as being ordained by Allah Glorified and Exalted be He.
“So don’t scare us with prisons. Do not scare us with death. Do not scare us that you are going to take us and deport us. Do not scare us with anything, because we are not scared of anyone, but the superpower which is Allah Glorified and Exalted be He. He is watching us and we are going to return to Him. You who want to scare us, you cannot.
“The oppressors should learn this. Learn it and google Imam Hussein. He is the one that we follow. He said that there is going to be no compromise with injustice and we are not going to compromise with any injust [sic].
“If it is the martyrdom is our future, then I say to everyone of you: Let the future come! O Hussein [the grandson of Mohammad, the prophet of Islam], We are at your service. O mahdi [the prophesied messiah of Islam], We are at your service! O mahdi, We are at your service!”
In another speech at Toronto protest against the movie “Innocence of Muslims” (September 22, 2012) Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi prophesied the victory of Islam globally and the implementation of the Islamic Law (Sharia) over mankind:
“We will stand as we stood today, as we will stand in the future, for any insult that comes to the Prophet and you should know this, that this is going to continue. It will not stop, and God is our witness, we will see the day when religion of Allah will overpower all of these oppressors and justice and peace will rule the world.”
Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi discussed in one his sermons held in Houston, Texas (January 30, 2011) the question of loyalty (“affiliation” in his terminology) of Shiite Muslim believers to their country of residence and the relations between religious belief and citizenship.
Here is an excerpt of Hassan Mujtaba Rizvi’s sermon:
“My affiliations are with Iran, because my affiliation with Canada would mean that if in Canada there was something for me to affiliate by, that was given to me by Allah, I should have affiliation with Canada.
“But when I look towards Allah, and I see that He has affiliation with Iran, has no affiliation with Canada with America, I say: I have affiliation with Iran.
“Do I have an affiliation with the country that I was born in? No. Why Should I have affiliation with the country that I was born in? That’s a very shallow way to look at it. Like, I was born in Pakistan, so I start having affiliations because I was born there.
“I should have some standards for my affiliations, meaning I landed here, the airport that you have, I’m not sure what it is, but I landed at this terminal, because I landed at this terminal I started having affiliations with it.
“Is it a right thing for me to do? I landed in Jhelum [airport in Pakistan] so now with Jhelum, because I landed there, should I have affiliation? No. My affiliation should be based on Allah Glorified and Exalted be HE has.
“Does Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, want to see people being oppressed in the world? Does He want to see that? He doesn’t. He wants to see people acting with each other with justice. ‘We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice’ [Koran, Surat al-Hadid, 25].”
“The purpose that we have sent the prophet is that everybody should act with each other with justice. The Law of Allah should be the deciding factor for the society to live in, and at the moment the Law of Allah Glorified and Exalted be He, is being implemented in only one country, and that is Iran. So, my affiliation is going to be automatically there. It’s not because I look like I’m from Iran.”
CIJnews obtained a leaflet distributed in Toronto by activists affiliated with Hizb ut-Tahrir, a radical Islamic global organization which “to revive the Islamic Ummah [nation]… to liberate it from the thoughts, systems and laws of Kufr [heresy]… [and] also aims to restore the Islamic Khilafah [Islamic] State so that the ruling by what Allah (swt) revealed returns.”
The following is the transcript of the leaflet that was handed to participants of al-Quds Day in Toronto on July 26, 2014:
“Gaza Is Bleeding! Where are the Muslim armies?
“Over the past few weeks we have witnessed a ruthless assault launched by the criminal Zionist entity on Gaza. The terrorist state fired upon the civilian population of Gaza with all kinds of devastating weaponry, with women and children being the primary victims of this brutality. This savagery has also resulted in the destruction of homes, turning them into mass graves for their residents while the few survivors are met with missiles as they try to escape from the rubble. Not even mosques, hospitals or facilities for the disabled were spared from this criminal assault. This has resulted in over 140,000 residents being displaced, over 800 martyred, including at least 155 children.
“And what has been the response of the surrounding Muslim regimes?
“Absolutely pathetic! The best of them opens the border crossings for the wounded, in a sense saying: ‘if you are nearly dead then you are welcome, but if you are alive then go back to the slaughter!’ Others have promised monetary aid. Can the people of Gaza use the currency notes to deflect the bombs falling on their heads?!
“The only way to stop the slaughter is for tanks to be deployed against tanks, aircrafts against aircrafts and warships against warships: the people of Gaza need armies to defend them. Just as paper currencies will do little to safeguard the fragile bodies of our children, neither will boycotting the Zionist entity stop the slaughter. The Zionist entity is a strategic asset in the hands of the colonial powers. If it were to go bankrupt, the colonial powers would bail it out just as they bailed out the banks!
“The real solution is, therefore, to work to remove the regimes, which are the obstacles preventing the Muslim armies from performing their fard (obligation) of protecting their brothers, sisters, parents and children in the land of lsra wal Mi’raj. Allah (swt) revealed:
“And if they seek help of you for the Deen, then you must help” TMQ 8:21
“And indeed Allah (swt) will hold these armies accountable on the Day of Judgment as they could have stopped this bloodshed if they wanted!
“Consequently, we must work to replace the current regimes with a sincere leadership that will unleash the collective resources of the Ummah to liberate Palestine and end the brutal occupation. The Arab countries surrounding Palestine have sufficient force to liberate the usurped land, and end the oppression of the people – with over 2 million soldiers, spending over $100 billion on arms annually. Egypt alone has over 200 F-16 fighter planes and 450,000 soldiers.
“O Muslims! The only shield that Allah (swt) prescribed for us is the imam. Muslim narrated from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Prophet (saw) said:
“Indeed, the Imam is a shield, you are protected by him and fight from behind him.”
“Until this shield is in place, we will unfortunately continue to witness the slaughter and oppression of our brothers and sisters in the blessed land of Bait ul Maqdis and elsewhere. We must therefore work with all our strength to remove these treacherous regimes and replace them with the Khilafah Rashida.
