Using cleaner fuel for ships berthed in Hong Kong has already helped reduce marine pollution, the Clean Air Network has found.

The new measure, which came in on July 1, has reduced the level of sulfur dioxide emitted by 40 percent in its first week.

The level of sulfur dioxide recorded at Kwai Chung station has decreased from 34.77 micrograms per cubic meter in 2014 to 12.54 this year.

All marine transports approaching Hong Kong are required to use a light fuel with sulfur content no higher than 0.5 micrograms per cubic meter under the new law.

“The sulfur content of traditional heavy fuel is around 2.8-3.5 micrograms per cubic meter, which is way higher,” said the network’s chief executive officer, Sum Yin-kwong.

But she added that even though the situation has improved, the pollutants level of Hong Kong still falls short of the standard of the World Health Organization.

The allowed concentration of sulfur dioxide (an indicator of marine pollution) in Hong Kong is 125 micrograms per cubic meter, which is six times more than the WHO standard.

“This reflected the absurdity of the current Air Quality Objectives standard the government has to align the standard with WHO,” she said.

Causeway Bay has the most severe regional pollution in Hong Kong, with its level of particulates reaching 59 micrograms per cubic meter, which is almost three times higher than international standards. Kwun Tong and Yuen Long came in second at a level of 47.

Hong Kong has lagged far behind Singapore in all indicators of pollution. Sum blamed the government’s conservative mind-set.

“They are using end-of-pipe measures getting rid of old cars and fuels,” she said. “The government should borrow the sustainable policies of Singapore.”

The network has proposed to the Transport Department the setting up of low-emission zones and pedestrian zones. “We hope the government can nail down the Des Voeux Road Central project so that we can have a proper pedestrian zone,” she said.

Sum also pointed out the problem of the SAR’s cycling networks. “It is useless if cycling is not recognized in our transport system. The networks in the New Territories now are merely for leisure.”

Hong Kong is also falling behind international standards in electronic transport management.

Sorry, @AsheSchow: ‘Due Process’ IS a Left-Right Issue — and Here’s Why

Sorry, @AsheSchow: ‘Due Process’ IS a Left-Right Issue — and Here’s Why

Ashe Schow is a brilliant young journalist, and one of the few reporters who have been steadily covering the attempt by feminists to criminalize heterosexuality on college campuses. The feminist agenda is so insane and extreme, that when I try to explain what is being taught in university Women’s Studies programs — the academic Feminist-Industrial Complex— most people quite literally cannot believe it. (See “Feminists Against Heterosexuality” and “Introduction to Feminist Theory” among other recent entries in the Sex Trouble series.) Yet each day brings further confirmation. There is a deliberate campaign to incentivize rape accusations at America’s colleges and universities by requiring mandatory “training” at orientation that will have the effect of terrorizing male students into avoiding all contact with females on campus.

University administrators are under intense pressure from federal authorities to punish male students, to produce statistical evidence that they are implementing the crackdown demanded by feminists. This will lead to a zero-tolerance approach in which every male-female encounter on campus is fraught with risk. Any male student who so much as speaksto a woman could be accused of harassment. Officials are actually bragging about their “success” in encouraging rape accusations, whichincreased 400 percent in a single year at the University of Wisconsin.

Ashe Schow explains how the rights of the accused are systematically violated under the policies mandated by federal bureaucrats:

When a student is accused of sexual assault on a college campus, they’re often given vague descriptions of the charge against them — which may have occurred years earlier. They’re forced to come up with a defense within days, told not to talk to anyone about the allegation (making mounting a defense nearly impossible) and not allowed to have an attorney speak on their behalf.
They face a system that has been shifted against them, where an accusation is all that’s needed to brand them a rapist for life and kick them out of school. There is no due process in campus hearings — no rules of evidence, cross-examination or right to be represented by an attorney. They’re not even told that anything said in the hearing can and will be used against them in a court of law.

Feminists demanded these policies, the Obama administration implemented these policies, and Hillary Clinton is planning a campaign for president in which any Republican who criticizes these policies will be accused of being “pro-rape.” This is a Feminist/Democrat/Media convergence we have seen before, during the Clarence Thomas hearings, again during the Lewinsky scandal (when feminists put on their “presidential knee pads” to defend Bill Clinton) and in 2012, when the “War on Women” meme helped Obama get re-elected with the largest “gender gap” in Gallup poll history. The non-existent “campus rape epidemic” — a vicious lie created with Statistical Voodoo and Elastic Definitions — is a crucial element in a shameless partisan political operation intended to elect Hillary Clinton to the White House.

Yet for some reason, Ashe Schow wants to pretend otherwise:

Due process for campus sexual
assault is not a left/right issue

Sexual assault is a serious issue that should be dealt with seriously. But the proposed solution for this problem on college campuses creates an entirely new problem. It eviscerates due process for accused students in the name of helping accusers.
The fight over campus sexual assault and due process has somehow devolved into a Republican vs. Democrat issue. The most vocal supporters of draconian sexual assault policies are Democrats like Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Claire McCaskill of Missouri. There are several prominent Republicans on a Senate bill to curb sexual assault, but none have made a name for themselves as a proponent.
Meanwhile, the print and online commentary voices defending due process rights for the accused have been mostly right-leaning. The only television voice on the issue of due process has been Fox News.
There have been exceptions to this, but unfortunately, the issue has become a way for political opponents to score points against each other. Those who favor due process are accused by liberals of being “rape apologists,” while those who favor the accusers are excoriated by right-leaning media.
That sentiment has muddied the issue. Due process used to be deeply important to liberals. Toughness on crime was more commonly associated with Republicans. Now the tables have turned and it makes no sense.
Due process should concern everyone. So should sexual assault. . . .
It shouldn’t be up to Republicans to stand up for due process or up to Democrats to stand up for victims. Both sides should be working toward the truth in each case.

You can read the whole thing. The problem is that to speak of what should be — to advocate an ideal — is a waste of time in the current environment where Democrats have manufactured a phony issue and are exploiting it for partisan gains. Democrats have created this issue and their allies in academia and the media are coordinating with Democrats to control the “rape culture” narrative in order to get more votes for Democrats. It is that simple, and anyone who supports Democrats is therefore supporting the policies that have stripped male students of due process rights. Ashe Schow writes:

In today’s climate, it is impossible to stand up for someone wrongly accused without being attacked. Once someone is labeled a “rapist” — even without evidence — he apparently forfeits his right to exist and must be expelled and have his life and future ruined.

Ruining the lives of male students is the primary goal of feminists, but the wrongly accused male students are just collateral damage to Democrats, for whom Hillary Clinton’s election is the larger objective.

To speak of “truth” to these people is both futile and misleading.

They don’t care about truth. They only care about power.

If you care about truth, if you care about the real lives of real human beings, you cannot be a feminist, nor can you be a Democrat, and it’s time we stop trying to sugar-coat that reality. We must stop pretending that such mythical creatures as “honest Democrats” and “moderate feminists” actually exist in the real world. Believing in “honest Democrats” is like believing in the Tooth Fairy and “moderate feminism” is either an oxymoron or a pointless nostalgia. Even if we were to stipulate that “moderate feminists” once existed (which I don’t), they were a phenomenon of a bygone era who have no relevance in the 21st century when, for example, the Feminist Majority Foundation employs a self-described “raging lesbian feminist” as its communications director and when Women’s Studies professors denounce Disney cartoons as being “heteronormative.” One could assemble a convention of every “honest Democrat” and “moderate feminist” in America and maybe they would fill a corner booth at Denny’s. Maybe.

Democrats have chosen the college campus as their battleground and have chosen “rape culture” as an issue because Democrats know that America’s institutions of higher education are staffed almost entirely by Democrats. Thus controlling the terrain on which they intend to fight this political battle, Democrats know they can rely on university officials to assist them, in the same way Democrats rely on the liberal media to promote their dishonest propaganda. (Need I remind you how Sabrina Rubin Erdley, Emily Renda and Catherine Lhamon collaborated in Rolling Stone‘s UVA rape hoax?) We cannot defeat these liars if we are afraid to tell the truth about who they are, what they do and why they do it. Feminism Is a Totalitarian Movement to Destroy Civilization as We Know It, and Democrats are the Party of Evil Liars and Fools.

The truth is not always a pleasant thing to hear, nor should anyone expect to become popular by speaking the truth in an age where deceit, perversion and hypocrisy have become so prevalent. I would like to think there are at least some female college students who are honest and responsible adults, but no male college student can be safe in that assumption. Paul Nungesser thought Emma Sulkowicz was his friend, and she was only too willing to encourage him in that belief, so long as she harbored the illusion that she could make him fall in love with her. Once that illusion was dispelled — once Sulkowicz realized that her “friends-with-benefits” hookups with Nungesser were emotionally meaningless to him — her love turned to hate, and hate inspired a plan for revenge, a conspiracy in which other feminists at Columbia University were quite willing to participate. Nungesser was blindsided by Sulkowicz’s false accusation. “My mother raised me as a feminist,” he told the New York Times, a fact his mother verified in an interview with Cathy Young of the Daily Beast. Yet the kind of “equality” Nungesser believed in — where a young adult woman can have casual sex with a male friend and expect nothing more — proved to be a cruel deception. Promiscuous women are often emotionally unstable, their low self-esteem expressed in a desperate search for male approval. The same needy impulses that inspire this sexual depravity, however, can also be manifested as a generalized rage toward men (yes, all men) whom the psychologically damaged woman blames for her own feelings of worthlessness.

“In my clinical work, I find that a promiscuous individual suffers from low self-esteem and feels that sex is a way to get attention and to feel noticed.”
Dr. Seth Myers

“A person with a borderline personality disorder often experiences a repetitive pattern of disorganization and instability in self-image, mood, behavior and close personal relationships. . . . The person may manipulate others and often has difficulty with trusting others. There is also emotional instability with marked and frequent shifts to an empty lonely depression or to irritability and anxiety.”
Richard J. Corelli, M.D.

Why should a woman like Emma Sulkowicz be just another “pump-and-dump” — used and discarded — when by claiming to be a victim of rape, she can be celebrated as a heroic “survivor”? Feminists praise her “courage” and, in doing so, have made Emma Sulkowicz a role model whom they encourage others to emulate. We can therefore expect a proliferation of copycats, and any male student who thinks he can safely engage in heterosexual behavior on campus is at risk of a brutal shock when he finds himself accused of “harassment” or “sexual assault.” Even when the female student initiates a relationship and actively pursues sex with a male student — as was evidently the case with Emma Sulkowicz — she may subsequently decide that she has been a victim, and the male who is falsely accused of rape will discover he has no due process rights in thecampus disciplinary procedures mandated by federal authorities.

Contrary to what anyone might say, this is a Left-Right issue, because this phony crisis was deliberately created by the Left in order to advance the feminist agenda and elect Democrats. We must tell the truth, no matter what penalty we pay for telling the truth. Whatever we may lose for the sake of truth, no good can be gained by cooperating with liars.

“Truth is great, and will prevail if left to herself. … [Truth] is the proper and sufficient antagonist to error, and has nothing to fear from the conflict, unless by human interposition disarmed of her natural weapons free argument and debate, errors ceasing to be dangerous when it is permitted freely to contradict them.”

Revealed: The Muslim Brotherhood’s British Property Portfolio Bankrolling Global Islamism

http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2015/07/10/revealed-the-muslim-brotherhoods-british-property-portfolio-and-global-islamism/

A registered charity with an £8.5million property portfolio in the UK, whose leaders have alleged links to al-Qaeda, Hamas and even the terrorists behind 9/11, has been revealed to exist solely to fund international Islamist organization, the Muslim Brotherhood. The trust owns 47 student flats in Leeds and the student rents have been unwittingly bankrolling political Islam in Europe for years.

The Leicestershire-based Europe Trust, which was created in 1996 with the backing of Gulf donors, claims to be “a non-political, non-profit making and independent, charitable organisation” on its website, which seeks to “contribute to a harmonious society where equal opportunity and quality of life are a reality for everyone” by supporting “the advancement of the Islamic religion.”

However, it sends funds to the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE), identified as the Brotherhood’s unofficial representative network on the Continent by experts; the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), a member FIOE identified as “the Brotherhood’s representative in the UK” by a government minister in 2010, and a network of Arabic-language religious schools attended by one of Lee Rigby’s murders.

The activities of the trust and the unofficial network of Brotherhood-linked organisations it funds were exposed in an investigation by Andrew Norfolk in The Times.

Former head of the FIOE and MAB, who has therefore been one of the most senior Islamists in Europe, Dr. al-Rawi, is the current President and a former trustee of Europe Trust. The structural engineer, 67, was born in Iraq but came to the UK in 1975. He is a member of the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR), funded by the FIOE which promotes it as the “chief religious authority for Muslims throughout Europe”.

ECFR chairman, Yusuf al-Qaradawi (pictured above), regarded as the Brotherhood’s supreme religious authority, has praised Hitler for “put[ing the Jews] in their place” and has issued fatwas condoning suicide bombings, attacks on Israeli children, FGM, wife-beating, and stoning homosexuals to death.

Dr. al-Rawi told The Times he does not accept the word Islamist and denied being a member of the Brotherhood. When they asked if he supported the Brotherhood’s ideology, he said he was “a Muslim.”

The trustees of the registered charity listed by The Times have links to just about all of the most feared and violent terrorist organizations on the planet. They include:

A man who ran Lajnat al-Dawa al-Islamiya (LDI), a Kuwaiti organization banned by the UN because of links with al-Qaeda, whose Pakistan branch was headed up by the brother of the mastermind behind 9/11.

  • Senior figures in “aid agencies” banned in Israel for being part of a wider group “created by Hamas to transfer funds to… terrorist,” according to the American government.
  • The previous head of the Islamic Society of Germany; investigated but not prosecuted by German police for indirectly funding al-Qaeda. He was also sentenced to death last month in Egypt for an alleged plotting with Brotherhood leaders.
  • An imam from Palestine jailed for five months in 2001 because of a secret “circumcision clinic” operating from his mosque Italian for the purposes mutilating young girls.
  • A Syrian businessman and leader of the Brotherhood in Turkey who is said to have ties with the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is a supporter.

The Brotherhood operates as covertly as possible in Europe. It has no official organization, never uses its menacing official logo, and instead represents itself via a network of shady charities, think tanks, educational institutions and Muslim-interest groups.

Steven Merley, an American intelligence specialist with a decade of experience researching the Brotherhood, who assisted The Times with their investigation, said:

“Brotherhood-affiliated organisations in Europe have traditionally been heavily dependent on funding from Gulf sources. The money supply once seemed unlimited, but that’s changing and they needed to find a way to insulate themselves from potential funding problems in the future… To meet Islamic requirements they can’t get involved with interest-bearing assets, but property is seen as an Islamically compliant vehicle for building wealth. Britain is central to the Brotherhood’s European activities and Europe Trust’s role is significant.”

The Muslim Brotherhood’s overarching objective is to replace secular democratic government with an Islamic caliphate under sharia law; its motto declares: “the Koran is our constitution, jihad our way and death for the sake of Allah our highest hope.” It is the most influential organization in the 20th century revival of political Islam, whose founding member, Hassan al-Banna, said the “nature of Islam to impose its law on all nations and to extend its power to the entire planet.”

It is not banned in the UK, but is classed as an illegal terrorist organisation in Egypt, Russia and Saudi Arabia. In April 2014, David Cameron launched an investigation into the Brotherhood’s activities here and allegations of extremism.

The Times reports to have sent all the information they gathered regarding the Europe Trust to the Charity Commission. A spokeswoman told them it would be assessed “to establish whether it gives rise to regulatory concern”. No formal investigation has been launched.

(Despite its members supporting Hamas and the killing of Israeli civilians and British and American troops in Iraq, the Brotherhood publicly condemns acts of terrorism in non-Muslim countries and there is no suggestion that Europe Trust is funding terrorism.)

muslim who supports ISIS is Lead Witness Against Irish Pastor who preached the truth about evils of Islam

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/muslim-who-praised-is-drove-case-against-satanic-islam-sermon-belfast-pastor-mcconnell-31365308.html

A leading Northern Ireland Muslim who praised Islamic State is set to be called as the main prosecution witness against a Christian preacher charged with making offensive remarks about Islam.

In legal documents seen exclusively by the Belfast Telegraph, Dr Raied Al-Wazzan of the Belfast Islamic Centre is named as the chief witness in the prosecution case against Pastor James McConnell.

The evangelical preacher faces up to six months in prison if convicted over a sermon last year in which he branded Islam as “heathen” and “Satanic”.

In his statement to the PSNI, Dr Al-Wazzan denounces the pastor’s “terrible comments” and describes his “general sweeping statements” as “offensive and disgusting”.

In January Dr Al-Wazzan himself was embroiled in controversy when he said that Islamic State, which has carried out mass executions and forced millions of people to flee their homes, had been a positive force in Mosul, his home city in Iraq.

“Since the Islamic State took over, it has become the most peaceful city in the world,” he told BBC Radio Ulster’s Talkback.

“Yes, there are other things going wrong there… they are murdering people, I agree, but you can go from east to west of the city without fear.”

His comments provoked public outrage and Dr Al-Wazzan later withdrew them and apologised.

In his statement to the PSNI about Pastor McConnell, Dr Al-Wazzan claims that many Muslims in Northern Ireland are professionals while the pastor’s congregation “may include impressionable, uneducated people”.

Last night Pastor McConnell told the Belfast Telegraph: “The PPS’s case against me is summed up by the fact that the chief witness the prosecution is calling is a man who made highly controversial comments about Isis (Islamic State in Syria and the Levant).

“A man who praised the rule in Iraq of Isis murderers will be giving evidence against me – it’s like a pantomime.

“I don’t know how he will have the nerve to stand in a court and testify against me, and I don’t know how the PPS has the nerve to think he is in a position morally to do that.”

Pastor McConnell’s solicitor Joe Rice said: “There are many bizarre features to this prosecution. We have now served our voluntary defence statement upon the court and the PPS.

“We expect the PPS to release additional and new information which may lead us to lodge an abuse of process application in the near future.”

A Public Prosecution Service spokesman said: “This case is now before the court and it is for the judge to decide on all evidential matters. It would be inappropriate for the PPS to make any further comment at this point.”

Pastor McConnell has been charged under the 2003 Communications Act with “sending, or causing to be sent, by means of a public electronic communications network, a message or other matter that was grossly offensive”.

The charges centre on a sermon he gave in May 2014 in which he said “Islam is heathen, Islam is Satanic, Islam is a doctrine spawned in Hell.” The sermon in the Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle was streamed on the internet.

In his statement to the PSNI four days after Pastor McConnell’s sermon, Dr Al-Wazzan reveals he hadn’t actually heard the sermon but became aware of it two days later when the Belfast Telegraph telephoned the Belfast Islamic Centre asking for comment about the preacher’s remarks.

Dr Al-Wazzan, an executive committee member of the centre, said he was “very offended” about what the evangelical preacher had said.

He told police: “It makes me angry that this man is making general sweeping statements of this type, branding all Muslims like this. A lot of the Muslim community in Belfast are professionals such as doctors and to hear this man speak like this is disgraceful and disgusting.

“My concerns are then worsened by the fact this man is in a position of power, preaching to a large congregation which may include impressionable, uneducated people who may then start to listen and believe what this man is saying rather than form their own beliefs.” In his five-page statement, Dr Al-Wazzan said he had been contacted by many Muslims worried about their safety following Pastor McConnell’s sermon.

“I now have concerns for the Muslim community and feel that any attacks that may happen in the forthcoming weeks are a direct result of what this man said on Sunday,” he added.

When Pastor McConnell was questioned by police about his sermon in June last year, Dr Al-Wazzan’s complaint was the only one the PSNI had received. A week later three more Muslims contacted the police to make brief statements of complaint.

They included two men from Pakistan whose north Belfast home was attacked a fortnight after the preacher’s controversial comments. Following the attack, Pastor McConnell visited the house, condemned what happened, and gave Muhammad Asif Khattak and Haroon Khan £100 to replace their broken window.

The Christian preacher is due to appear in court next month but the case is not likely to be heard until December.

Mr Rice has said it will be a landmark trial with leading political, religious, and academic figures giving evidence in defence of freedom of speech and religion.

Pastor McConnell last night said he was sorry if he had offended Muslims but he was still willing to go to jail rather than withdraw his remarks.

“Everybody has the right to free speech,” he said. “When Dr Al-Wazzan found himself in trouble for his Isis comments earlier this year, I publicly said that he had let himself go but I stressed that he shouldn’t be reported to the police.

“As strongly as I disagree with what he said, I support his right to say it. But, it seems, the same right is not extended to me.”

Timeline

May 2014:  Pastor McConnell delivers a firebrand sermon railing against Islam and all its works, describing it as “heathen”, “Satanic” and “a doctrine spawned in Hell”.  “People say there are good Muslims in Britain — that may be so — but I don’t trust them”  he says in a video of his sermon streamed over the internet.

May 21, 2014: Dr Raied Al-Wazzan, of the Belfast Islamic Centre, complains to police about Pastor McConnell’s sermon and claims Pastor McConnell would be responsible for any attacks on Muslims in Northern Ireland. Police launch an investigation into what they describe as a potential hate crime.

May 28, 2014: Remarks by First Minister Peter Robinson supporting Pastor McConnell spark outrage. Mr Robinson tells the Irish News that while he would not trust Muslims involved in violence or those devoted to Sharia law, he would trust them “to go to the shops” for him. Mr Robinson said that it was a duty of any preacher to denounce what he described as “false prophesy”.

June 4 2014: Mr Robinson goes into reverse gear. The DUP leader apologises to Muslims for any offence caused by his remarks in support of Pastor McConnell, adding that his remarks were misinterpreted.

June 6, 2014: Pastor McConnell apologises for any offence caused by his controversial sermon, but refuses to retract it. One of his assistant pastors resigns.

September 1, 2014: Pastor McConnell announces his retirement.

June 18, 2015: News breaks that Pastor McConnell is to be prosecuted under the Communications Act 2003 for sending a “grossly offensive” communication over the internet. The Public Prosecution Service said that because Pastor McConnell had refused to accept an informed warning he would be taken to court.

June 24, 2015: Islamic scholar Sheikh Dr Muhammad Al-Hussaini defends Pastor McConnell’s right to free speech. “I strongly uphold the moral right of Pastor McConnell and myself, as Christian and Muslim, to disagree about matters of doctrine and belief. I express my deep dismay that my fellow citizen is being subjected to criminal proceedings, when at no time have any of the statements he has made incited physical harm against anyone.”

July 8: Dr Al-Wazzan is named as a prosecution witness against Pastor McConnell.

Angry drunk woman attacked boyfriend for refusing sex

say no to Tabatha Lee Grooms and there’s a price to pay (Richmond County Sheriff’s Office)

A US woman has been arrested for beating up her boyfriend because he said no to sex.

Tabatha Lee Grooms, 35, returned home from a boozy night out still fuming with her boyfriend for spurning her advances earlier in the day.

Carlos Rodrecus Grace, 30, was sitting on the sofa when Grooms arrived at 11.30pm on June 24, determined to settle their score.

She scratched Grace on the face, head and neck, and bit him on the arm, before he fled to the bathroom to call 911.

When police arrived at the house, she initially refused to give her name, then threatened to run an officer over with a baby stroller.  She did admit she’d been drinking, however.

WFXG reports that Grooms’ 66-year-old mother also got caught in the crossfire, receiving a punch in the eye from her drink-addled daughter.

Following her arrest and charge with simple battery family violence, Grooms was taken to Richmond County Jail.
