Chinese community gets apology from B.C. for historical wrongs

The Chinese community in B.C. received a formal apology today from the provincial government for historical policies that once targeted immigrants and residents.

The apology, which was introduced by Premier Christy Clark on Thursday morning, aims to recognize and make amends for 160 historical racist and discriminatory policies imposed in B.C., such as denying Chinese immigrants the right to vote and charging them a head tax to immigrate.

Clark said the B.C. government supported the head tax and even took payments, so time has been set aside on Thursday for MLAs to debate and pass a motion officially apologizing for those measures.

“While the governments which passed these laws and policies acted in a manner that [was] lawful at the time, today this racist discrimination is seen by British Columbians — represented by all members of the legislative assembly — as unacceptable and intolerable,” Clark told the legislature.

“We believe this formal apology is required to ensure that closure can be reached on this dark period in our province’s history.”

“The entire legislative assembly acknowledges the perseverance of Chinese Canadians that was demonstrated with grace and dignity throughout our history while being oppressed by unfair and discriminatory historical laws.

“Moreover, we acknowledge the overwhelming contribution by Chinese Canadians to British Columbia’s culture, history and economic prosperity

Women troll each other online: How females are just as likely to be abused by their own sex as by men

another day more feminazi lies debunked by real science.

Women are just as likely to be abused online by other females as they are by men and call each other ‘sluts’ and ‘whores’, research has found.

Analysis of more than six million tweets using the two derogatory references to women, and discovered men and women were equally likely to use the vile terms, known as trolling.

The study, carried out by a University of Sussex think tank, worked out that 131,000 of the tweets came from UK accounts, and 18 per cent of those appear misogynistic.

The team also analysed Twitter for ‘rape’ references, and found that a shocking 12 per cent of tweets using the word were threatening.

Sample tweets, sent by women included: ‘There is always that one annoying slut that acts innocent,’ and ‘I don’t think it’s fair that I’m not allowed to tell a rape joke just because you decided to be a slut one night 16 years ago.

Others have written: ‘That’s not modelling. That’s being a whore in someone’s basement.’

One said: ‘I hate when bitches don’t say thank you after you hold the door open for them. F*** you slut,’ while another said: ‘I’m just gonna be his whore and not work because it’s all I’m good at.’

Horrifically, one tweeter wrote: ‘Slut you think I won’t choke no whore til her vocal chords won’t work in her throat no more.’

Sofia Patel said: ‘Women are increasingly more inclined to engage in discourses using the same language that has been, and continues to be, used as derogatory against them.’

The study, published by think-tank Demos, also found a high proportion of ‘casual’ misogyny on the social network was carried out by women, as they made joking rape references or called friends bad names.

Previous studies have shown women are more likely to be subjected to online abuse and threats than men.

Venice pool bans men to integrate Muslims

For the next three Sundays, the pool at Polisportiva Bissuola di Mestre will be open only to women and their children between 9am and 10.30am, the Veneto edition of Corriere reported on Thursday.

The move, launched in coordination with the Italian Union of Sports for All (Usip), is “an opportunity to promote integration and raise awareness of women from different backgrounds,” Ugo Di Mauro, the president of the Bissuola sports club, was quoted as saying in Corriere. Their faith prevents many muslim women from using mixed swimming pools.
