Canadian Khaled al-Qazzaz plays a prominent role in Egypt Muslim Brotherhood

Egyptian born Khaled Adly Mustafa al-Qazzaz (خالد عدلي مصطفى القزاز) studied engineering in Canada and obtained Canadian citizenship before returning to Egypt. It was reported that during his stay in Canada Khaled al-Qazzaz was under surveillance of the Canadian and American intelligence agencies.

In late 90s Khaled al-Qazzaz joined the Muslim Brotherhood. He became a close associate of Khairat el-Shater (خيرت الشاطر), the Muslim Brotherhood Deputy Supreme Guide. After the revolution of January 25, 2011 Khaled al-Qazzaz was appointed to the Head of Foreign Relations of the Freedom and Justice Party (حزب الحرية والعدالة), the political front of the Muslim Brotherhood. He was also mentioned as a member of the international intelligence branch of the Muslim Brotherhood (فرع الإستخبارات الخارجية لجماعة الإخوان المسلمين) headed by Khairat al-Shater.

Later, Khaled al-Qazzaz, who also served as secretary of Mokatam Language School, joined the campaign team that promoted al-Shater for presidency and after his disqualification by court the team was assigned to run Muhammad Morsi’s election campaign. President Morsi rewarded Khaled al-Qazzaz by appointing him to his secretary and close adviser for international relations. He was also described as a liaison person between the presidency and the Muslim Brotherhood. Following the coup that ousted Morsi on June 2013, Khaled al-Qazzaz was arrested by the military regime.

While in office Khaled al-Qazzaz was quoted as saying that Egypt will not any longer cooperate with US in the war on terror and gave a green light to Egyptians to join the fighting in Syria. “All Egyptians entitle to enjoy freedom of travel,” said Khaled al-Qazzaz who added that the “the Presidency does not regard the Egyptians who fight in Syria as a threat to the security of Egypt.” Moreover, Khaled al-Qazzaz promised that “we will not become a centre for arresting or prosecuting Egyptians based on what they did in other countries.”
